P. W. Host Construction LLC is an exclusive builder of barns, custom homes, steel outdoor roping/riding arenas, and other related services specializing in Montana farm/ranch properties. We provide in-house framing, siding, and most steel work on all of our projects.
All projects are individually designed and site constructed to meet the owner’s needs. We build one project at a time, allowing each our full attention throughout.
CAD DESIGN:
Originally drawn by hand, now on Autocad, each project is designed and built on paper by Paul Host to the client’s satisfaction before any construction begins. In the design/build process, our satisfaction comes solely in the knowledge that we have pleased the client by effectively incorporating their wishes into a working set of plans. We also work with architects and engineers as necessary. We believe the plan stage is the most critical phase of construction.
BARNS:
Post-frame, stick-frame, hybrid steel and wood
Montana is the home of some truly beautiful historic barns. Some of these barns have succumbed to the effects of harsh weather, others to development. Our dream is to build all our barns as a monument to those fallen classics. View the custom barn portfolio.
 Along with many other barns, we have designed a post-frame steel/wood hybrid 12 stall round barn fully capable of standing the test of time. It was inspired by the 14-sided barn which is the centerpiece at 1880 Town in South Dakota. The barn was originally on pastureland owned by Bob Brost, Paul’s father-in-law. Along with its utility, the barn was also host of many gatherings and barn dances. With a 72 foot span and nearly 40 feet tall, we wholeheartedly feel this barn is a truly worthy monument and are looking forward to having the opportunity to build it.
Horse barns: Custom built to horse and owner’s needs with almost endless options with tack rooms and offices, custom built steel/wood horse stalls, stanchions, wash racks, and steel outside runs. We have pioneered a truly effective track/dutch door made from wood or steel/wood combination.

Design/build: We have the ability to be an all inclusive ranch property builder by designing and building custom homes worthy of a beautiful piece of property. With over 30 years experience in the residential construction industry (20 as a building contractor), Paul Host brings an unparalled thoroughness to the homebuilding process. With his unique ability and creativity in the design process, he chooses, at the end of each project, to honor the home’s uniqueness by not building from its house plan again.
STEEL OUTDOOR ARENAS:
Custom designed and built steel roping/riding arenas. Roping arena design inspired by close friend, Doug Cox, PRCA Mountain States Circuit Finals champion steer wrestler. Site-built construction with all connections fully welded. All gates custom site-built to individual openings. Unique horse and rider friendly roping boxes. Custom built lead-ups and strip chutes. Can be built from new or used pipe of virtually any size. Site-built work offers endless possibilities in design. We feel we are one of the top outdoor roping/riding arena builders in the state.
